Activities

We believe students develop most successfully and completely when they are involved in activities that exercise the body and spirit as well as the mind. Each year we offer a variety of non-academic events and activities, some of which involve the entire student body and others that students may elect to join.

The Ropes Course
A Palo Alto Prep tradition, this day-long adventure takes students, faculty and expert facilitators into the Santa Cruz mountains for a team-oriented "action learning" experience. Throughout the day students negotiate a series of challenging events, from balancing on a rope to climbing in the tall trees supported by cables and pulleys. This experience offers an invigorating perspective on positive risk-taking, goal-setting, resourcefulness and personal responsibility.

Sojourn to the Past
This 10-day trip to the south takes students to the geographic and spiritual heart of the Civil Rights Movement. Students and teachers visit the sites where history was made, and they hear first-hand from the great leaders and courageous citizens who were directly involved. This is a lesson in tolerance, compassion, forgiveness and courage and civic responsibility.

Headlands Institute
Students spend two days engaged in interactive adventures at the spectacular Marin Headlands, north of San Francisco. Amidst sea cliffs and redwood forests, students participate in outdoor activities, games, team-building exercises and classroom instruction in a fully equipped natural science laboratory.

Kayaking in Monterey Bay
This one-day trip combines physical skill building with marine education and fun. Students are equipped to paddle out into the bay, where they observe seals, sea otters and other forms of marine life in their natural habitat.

San Francisco Cultural Adventures
Students, teachers and parents visit the city to see museums and shows. Art students visit special exhibits and learn about different styles and periods of art. Drama students go to stage shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserable, and The Lion King to enjoy and learn from live theatrical performances.

End-of-the-Year School Picnic
Students play, dine and socialize at Huddart Park in Woodside to celebrate the completion of a successful school year.
